Once More - Jagjit Singh Makes Music Immortal & keeps winning the hearts of the people.
Raleigh, NC: Jagjit Singh, the name synonymous to the ghazal, enticed more than 900 people on May 24 at Stewart Theater in Raleigh. The event was organized by LiveSpectrum Entertainment and was sponsored by Soleil Group, Farmah and Bola family & AKM realty. His kept the audience spellbound with beautiful ghazals sung in his deep, gentle, melodious voice for hours in his unique style.
Ghazal is a romantic poetry of unattainable spiritual love, originated in Persia. It is usually written in Urdu which is difficult for common people to understand, but the pair of Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh successfully changed the history of Ghazal by making it easier for people to understand. They also gave a new life and a modern look to a dying form of beautiful poetry. Jagjit and Chitra Singh’s first album was ‘Unforgettable’ was a great hit. Jagjit Singh became the magnum opus by giving musical meaning to the poetry of many poets. His magical touch can make the poetry immortal. He has many albums to his credit including Murasim, Samvedana, Mirza Ghalib, Kaagaz ki kashti. He had also sung religious songs in Hindi, Gujarati and Punjabi as well as given playback and had composed music for Bollywood. His journey of life was not a bed of roses but he survived the greatest loss, his son’s death due to his devotion of music. His book ‘Beyond Time- The ageless music of Jagjit Singh’ reflects the glimpses of his life in interviews of his family and friends.
For his achievements in the field of music he was awarded Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India. The It stands third in the hierarchy of civilian awards, after the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan, but comes before the Padma Sri. It is awarded to recognize distinguished service of a high order to the nation, in any field.
Jagjit Singh sang his famous ghazals, made the event more enjoyable by his great sense of humor. He gave ttribute to Naushad, a renounce music director of Bollywood who passed away recently by singing Naushad’s famous song- Bachapan ki mohabbat ko dil se na juda karma Mrs. Sudha Dhingra introduced Jagjit Singh. Rajesh Shukla was emceed the event, commented, Jagjit Singh‘s ghazals bring out the emotional side of ghazal and poetry lovers, delivers tranquility, passion, serenity, sweet pain, deepens grief, love, and separation with which everyone connects to.
Smooth transition from one ghazal to another, from light music to classical was very intoxicating and made the event really an unforgettable.
LiveSpectrum Entertainment Company, a new venture in the triangle area, opened their season with the US premier of the Hindi comedy play "Hum Le Gaye Tum Rah Gaye" on March 5, 2005. The play featured the famous actor and VJ, Javed Jaffrey, playing four different roles. It was an adaptation of Marathi play "Sahi Re Sahi" which earned a place in The Guinness Book of World Records for performing 565 shows in 365 days. The play was hilarious sharp dialogues, carefully constructed chaos, and incredible agility of the actors kept audience on a roll throughout the duration of the play.
Divakar Shukla, emceed of the show (editor of Saathee magazine and host of Nazar TV show), said (it was) a show not to be missed, full of laughs and twists. Audience commented that they have never seen such comedy in Triangle ever and that the show was clean and could be watched with the entire family.
Javed Jaffrey is one of the most versatile personalities of Indian cinema. He has been an actor, dancer, choreographer, stage show host, VJ, TV anchor, dubbing artist and a dialogue writer. And he continues to push his horizon of creative pursuits. The latest feather in his cap is Hum Le Gaye Tum Rah Gaye where he essays four roles of millionaire Ajmera, the LIC agent Mr. Gaglani, courier boy cum ex owner of Full Moon Beauty Saloon- Softy Singh, and an illiterate village boy Hariya. It?s a fast-paced action drama and I have to get in and out of each role as well as costume in a matter of seconds, adds Jafferi. Adds Sanjay Goradia, who has also produced the Gujarati version, The play has a simple plot laced with humor about mistaken identities. The audience has to keep guessing who is the real main character the millionaire Amar Ajmera.
